The Catechesis of Gnostic Doctrine

In the name of the unknown Father of all, by Aletheia, the Mother of all, by the name which descended upon Jesus,

The word catechesis comes from the Greek meaning "to echo the teaching" meaning that catechesis or the teaching of the faith is an interactive process in which the Logos the Voice of Divine Reason of the Living Gnosis re-sounds between and among the proclaimer, the one receiving the message, and the Holy Spirit!

The word catechesis was chosen instead of catechism since the word catechism is just another creed or summary or exposition of doctrine and serves as a learning introduction to the Sacraments traditionally thus Catechisms are doctrinal manuals. 

The Catechesis of Gnostic Doctrine is different it is a life-long process of prayer, studying, a deepening relationship with God who reveals himself in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit

Doctrine is Important

Many People seem to think that being a Gnostic is Post Doctrinal claiming "Gnostic Is Not about Doctrines! That’s Orthodox."

Well Valentinian Cosmology is pretty complicated doctrinal things and some modern Gnostics have a tendency to think that Gnosticism is post doctrinal and that dogma and doctrine are bad things but to the classical Gnostics they were important and and for us as modern Gnostics they're important because cosmology (Cosmogony is the study of the creation of the universe.) determines anthropology (Christian anthropology is the study of the human ("anthropology") as it relates to God) our view of mankind.

Doctrine (from Latin: doctrina, meaning "teaching" or "instruction")

Finding the meaning of Jesus's secret teachings brings eternal life

These are the hidden sayings that the living Jesus spoke and that Didymus Judas Thomas wrote down.

The hidden or secret sayings are in signs or signified the sayings, they are symbolical that is why we are told to find the correct interpretation of these sayings. (Cp. Saying 63)

There can be only one true correct interpretation of these sayings it is called single doctrine in the Second Treatise of the Great Seth:

And he is entirely one, being the All with them all in a single doctrine, because all these are from a single spirit. O unseeing ones, why did you not know the mystery rightly? (The Second Treatise of the Great Seth)

Again the savior answered and said, "Therefore it is necessary for us to speak to you, since this is the DOCTRINE of the perfect. If, now, you desire to become perfect, you shall observe these things; if not, your name is 'Ignorant', since it is impossible for an intelligent man to dwell with a fool, for the intelligent man is perfect in all wisdom. To the fool, however, the good and bad are the same—indeed the wise man will be nourished by the truth and (Ps.1:3) "will be like a tree growing by the meandering stream"—seeing that there are some who, although having wings, rush upon the visible things, things that are far from the truth.




We believe that there is One, Ineffable Deity, which first manifests as the primal Dyad, Bythos (Depth) and Sige (Silence), and that from this Dyad emanated the Aions of the Pleroma: the Ogdoad, the Decad and the Dodecad.


We believe that ignorance of the Father is Error, Error gave birth to the Kenoma (Matter), the realm of deficiency and ignorance. She was preparing works and forgetfulnesses and fears in order, by these means, to beguile those of the middle and to make them captive.

This ignorance of the father brought about terror and fear. And terror became dense like a fog, so no one was able to see. Because of this, error became strong. But she worked on her material substance vainly, because she did not know the truth. She assumed a fashioned figure while she was preparing, in power and in beauty, the substitute for truth. We affirm that Sophia is the holy spirit

Ex 28:3 And thou shalt speak unto all [that are] wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

Mt 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.


We believe the work of redemption through the descent of the Aeon Christ for the purpose of bringing the Spiritual Seed to maturity, who is joined to Sophia as Bride and Bridegroom.


We believe the agency of the Demiurge (the Elohim or the angles), .the Great Ruler, the head of the physical universe.

For he too is called "father" and god" and "demiurge" and "king" and "judge" and "place" and "dwelling" and "law." (The Tripartite Tractate)

Like that of all else is the creation of mankind as well. The spiritual Logos moved him invisibly, as he perfected him through the Demiurge and his angelic servants, who shared in the act of fashioning in multitudes, when he took counsel with his archons. Like a shadow is earthly man, so that he might be like those who are cut off from the Totalities. Also he is something prepared by all of them, those of the right and those of the left, since each one in the orders gives a form to the [...] in which it exists. (The Tripartite Tractate)

We believe the doctrine of creation by the Emanation of the One True Deity


We believe Salvation through Gnosis, which is the mystical apprehension of spiritual truths and spiritual union with the Pleroma.We believe the five seals or the five sacraments baptism, the anointing or the laying on of hands, the Lord's Supper, Redemption and the Bride-Chamber

We believe the Assembly of Believers Everywhere by the fellowship of the holy spirit directed by our Lord, which is the earthly manifestation of the pre-existent Ekklesia.

We asserted that the Roman Church is the Whore of Babylon; and denied obedience to the pope or bishops, and that the Pope has any authority over other churches, or the power of either the civil or ecclesiastical sword.

For Error fled from Him, and never met Him.
But Truth was proceeding on the upright way, and whatever I did not understand He exhibited to me:
All the poisons of error, and pains of death which are considered sweetness.
And the corrupting of the Corruptor, I saw when the bride who was corrupting was adorned, and the bridegroom who corrupts and is corrupted.

We believe in the consummation of the age and the final judgement


Before the consummation of the age, the whole place will be shaken by great thunder. Then the rulers will lament, crying out on account of their death. The angels will mourn for their human beings, and the demons will weep for their times and seasons, and their people will mourn and cry out on account of their death. Then the age will begin, and they will be disturbed. Then she will drive out the gods of chaos, whom she had created together with the chief creator. She will cast them down to the abyss. They will be wiped out by their own injustice. For they will become like the mountains that blaze out fire, and they will consume one another until they are destroyed by their chief creator. When he destroys them, he will turn against himself and destroy himself until he ceases to be. And their heavens will fall upon one another and their powers will burn. Their realms will also be overthrown. And the chief creator’s heaven will fall and split in two. Likewise, his stars in their sphere will fall down to the earth, and the earth will not be able to support them. They will fall down to the abyss, and the abyss will be overthrown. We wait for the advent of Our Lord the Great King

We believe in the coming Aion when the Feast of the Marriage of the Lamb will take place
Whoever sows in winter reaps in summer. Winter is the world, summer is the other, eternal realm. Let us sow in the world to reap in summer. And for this reason we should not pray in winter.

From winter comes summer. If someone reaps in winter, the person will not really reap but will pull out the young plants, and such do not produce a crop. [That person’s field] is barren not only [now] but also on the sabbath. (The Gospel of Philip)
