gone astray The Gospel of Philip

The Lost

Those who have gone astray, who are offspring of the spirit, go astray also because of the spirit. Thus from one spirit the fire blazes and the fire is extinguished.
the spirit both produces and also leads astray just as a wind may either blow a fire into a blaze or put it out

by the same spirit the fire blazes is fanned and is blown out

Revelation 2:5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

Those who have gone astray, whom the spirit begets [those having once received knowledge of the truth], usually go astray also because of the spirit [she will give to anyone according to the “idols of his heart”]. Thus, by one and the same breath [spirit], the fire blazes and is put out [we will either be refined in the fire to full maturity as sons (by “conforming to Christ” i.e. in harmony with the will of the Father in knowing it is the only way to perfection) or our fire will be put out (being “conformed to the world” which is in opposition – “many are called but few are chosen” – it is important to know that gaining eternal life prior to being perfected would leave us in a horrible state for we would be in an eternal struggle trapped in the mechanizations of error found in that tree of good and evil and never come to apprehension of perfect love i.e. we would never be truly “free”. Remember that all of this takes place in our hearts and minds, it is our thoughts and feelings (the fire) that is the “war in our members”]. (Philip 27)

We are regenerated through the Spirit so that we are able to perceive the realities of our existence and the Path to the Divine Realm, but those who lose their way and stray from the Path usually do so because of the same Spirit. The Spirit of the Prophets is subject to the Prophets. The Spirit teaches us, empowers us, and renews us, but it must be governed by the principles we receive from the Masters, or its Fire can consume us. When the Spirit causes our spark of Divinity to flare up, it becomes a conflagration which will consume our old personalities, but if it is not brought under control, it can consume our whole souls.
